Tandem processes CAD files and other engineering documents so your team can view, annotate, and discuss designs without needing desktop software.

Uploading files

Attach files to any node in your system architecture. Tandem supports:
  • CAD files — SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm) and STEP (.stp, .step) files are processed for 3D viewing
  • Documents — PDFs, images, and other files are stored as artifacts
To upload, select a node and click Upload in the artifacts panel, or drag and drop files directly.
CAD files go through a processing pipeline after upload. You’ll see a progress indicator while the model is being converted for browser viewing.

3D viewer

Processed CAD files render in an interactive 3D viewer powered by HOOPS Communicator. You can:
  • Rotate, zoom, and pan — Use mouse or touch controls to navigate
  • Select parts — Click components in the model to highlight them
  • Model tree — Browse the assembly hierarchy in a collapsible tree
  • Measurement tools — Measure distances and dimensions on the model
  • Cross-sections — Slice through the model to see internal geometry
  • Exploded views — Spread assembly components apart for inspection

PDF drawings

PDF files and auto-generated 2D drawings are viewable directly in the browser. You can annotate drawings with markup tools — see Annotations for details.

Bill of Materials

For assembly files, Tandem auto-generates a Bill of Materials (BOM) from the CAD structure. The BOM table shows:
  • Part names and quantities
  • Material assignments
  • Cost tracking
  • Supplier information
You can edit BOM fields directly in the table and export to CSV.

Saved views

Save specific camera positions, visibility states, and markups as named views. Share saved views with your team so everyone can quickly jump to the same perspective.
